This year, we decided to plan two shorter trips in our own back yard. Over the July 4th holiday, we went up to Oregon and cycled around the Columbia River Gorge and spent some time in Portland. Then, over the Labor Day week, we went to the Eastern Sierras to take in some natural sights and great bike rides. It was our "poor man's Alps" for this year.
