Hiking Around Mono Lake (1 of 15)

9/4 Today after racing the Giro di San Francisco, I headed home for a quick shower before leaving on vacation. We headed out around 10:30 and stopped at 11:00 for lunch in Livermore. Then, it was a quick jaunt to the Yosemite park entrance on 120. We rolled down the windows to smell the pine trees. It was a warm afternoon. We went up and over Tioga pass to Lee Vining.

We went to sit by Mono Lake and enjoy the view before getting dinner at the BBQ restaurant near our hotel. Man I was hungry!

9/5 afternoon After returning from our June Lake bike ride and taking a shower, we headed to the Mono Lake South Tufa area. We hiked the small loop trail down to the lake. I was glad to see the lake, as I had never seen this area before. Also, the tufa will soon be covered as the watershed is restored by the Los Angeles DWP. After our hike, we continued south to Bishop - our home for the next 3 nights. We had a brief lunch stop in Mammoth Lakes.
