9/5 morning in Lee Vining This morning we got up around 6:00 and grabbed a pancake breakfast next to the hotel. Then, we quickly got ready for our first ride. We headed out around 8:30 toward June Lake - a 32 mile loop ride starting around 7,000 ft. in elevation with 1,500 feet of climbing. It was a beautiful and peaceful morning ride in the sun - surrounded by granite peaks on one side and desert on the other. It was already in the 70s, but turned quite cool as we descended through the shadow of a big peak. The aspens were still green and the lakes were calm - a perfect ride. The idea of this ride was to take it easy to recover from the race and start the red blood cell mass-production process. Tomorrow, we attempt to ride to over 10,000 ft. elevation in 24 miles from 4,000 ft. elevation to the Bristlecone Pine Forest. Yikes!
