Sarah E. Clatterbuck

Technical & Business Advisory, Board Member, Speaker

Sarah E. Clatterbuck Photo I am a seasoned engineering and business leader, having worked in technology, mostly in Big Tech, for 30 years. I passed through a startup, scaleup and early-stage public companies as well as having a brief stint in academia. Most of my career was spent at Yahoo!, LinkedIn and Google/YouTube. I was named one of the Top 50 Women in Tech US and World by Forbes in 2018. At the end of 2025, I stepped away to focus on other aspects of my life. I remain grateful for a career in which I learned so much and worked with so many talented people. I am available on an extremely limited basis for advisory/goverance, consulting and speaking work. You can reach out to me via LinkedIn or email (listed below).

Technical Career Highlights

I am well known for a couple different things in my career. For a while, I developed deep expertise in mobile and web client development, starting at Yahoo!. During that time, I became a champion of Accessibility and Inclusive Design within LinkedIn as well as the industry more broadly. I led our Accessibility teams as well as infrastructure teams building libraries and frameworks for web and mobile engineers. As a leader, I love boring technologies that just work. I see technology in service to the product/business that is being created.

Business Career Highlights

The other thing I'm known for is building marketplace businesses that have grown to $1B+. I was part of the launch team for both Sponsored Content and Sales Navigator at LinkedIn. At YouTube, the teams and I launched Channel Memberships, Brand Connect and Creator Merch. We scaled the Movies and Shows business 5x. Across these business lines, I grew top-line revenues by over $1B before becoming the founding executive on YouTube Shopping. For YouTube Shopping, we built a three-sided marketplace between Creators, Viewers and Merchants. We had two business models and grew GMV from zero to multi-billions. I worked with a multi-disciplinary team, including hundreds of software engineers, across three regions (AMER, EMEA, APAC) and had the unique experience of growing a business that first got traction in APAC. During my time at YouTube, I integrated two different startups into the company.

Advisory and Governance Work

I have extensive experience in governance dating back to 2015 when I joined the board of Girl Scouts of Northern California. During that time, I led the STEM committe, oversaw the development of a local maker space, as well as property decisions and executive succession plans. I also sat on the Dean's Advisory council for the University of San Francisco as they developed the School of Engineering. I've served on the advisory board for several private companies in the US, Switzerland and Europe and Women in Tech Switzerland (an NGO). I served in Switzerland on the board for my local congregation in Zürich (C3 Zürich Verein) which was responsible for leadership team oversight, pastor's annual reviews, strategic feedback, staff compensation and budget. I also was a Site Lead for Google, Zürich, responsible for strategic oversight of topics affecting our 5,000+ employees in Switzerland. Our site team led through real estate strategy, pandemic response, return to office and Google's first mass-restructuring process.

Leadership

As a leader, I am dedicated to increasing the diversity of the technical workforce. Diverse teams build better products that reach a wider audience. As such, I consistently spent about 20% of my time throughout my career dedicated to work beyond my core role that helps provide greater opportunities within the industry and society. My advisory interests are in supporting under-estimated founders, especially in the areas of education, health and sustainability.
